"In December 1971, in the lead-up to the first Australia-NZ Orienteering Challenge, a practice event was held at Mt Hay in the Blue Mountains. Two prominent athletes, Dave Lotty and Rod Dominish, saw the possibility of the sport developing ... a couple of weeks later Australia's first specialist orienteering club, Bennelong Occasional Orienteers, was formed with Rod as President and Dave as Secretary."
